Why Mindfulness for Children Instructor Training Could Be Your Next Career Move

30 March 20266 min read

Children's emotional wellbeing is one of the most talked-about topics in education right now. Schools, nurseries, and families are actively looking for practical, evidence-based support — and qualified mindfulness instructors are in growing demand.

If you're a teacher, early years practitioner, healthcare professional, or someone looking for a meaningful career change, our Mindfulness for Children Instructor Training could be exactly what you're looking for.

Why mindfulness for children matters right now

One in six children aged 5–16 has a probable mental health condition, according to NHS data. Anxiety, emotional dysregulation, and difficulty concentrating are increasingly common in classrooms and at home. Mindfulness gives children practical, accessible tools to manage their feelings — without needing to talk about them in a clinical way.

The beauty of teaching mindfulness to children is that it doesn't require a therapy room or a diagnosis. It works in a classroom, a nursery, a community hall, or a living room. It's gentle, playful, and genuinely effective.

What does the training involve?

Our course is designed for anyone who works with or cares for children aged 3–11. You don't need prior mindfulness experience. You just need a genuine desire to support children's emotional wellbeing.

Over approximately 100 study hours (self-paced online), you'll cover:

  • The neuroscience behind mindfulness and how it supports child brain development
  • Age-appropriate breathing exercises, body scans, and grounding techniques for ages 3–5, 5–7, and 7–11
  • Guided visualisations and storytelling for calm and focus
  • Tools for managing anxiety, anger, and overwhelm in children
  • Ready-to-use scripts, session plans, and activities — so you can start teaching straight away
  • How to deliver sessions in schools, nurseries, after-school clubs, and private practice
  • A trauma-aware, inclusive approach that works for all children

Who is it for?

We've trained teachers, teaching assistants, nursery staff, play therapists, counsellors, yoga instructors, and parents. What they all have in common is a genuine care for children's wellbeing and a desire to do something practical about it.

Many of our graduates go on to deliver sessions in primary schools, run their own children's wellbeing workshops, or add mindfulness to their existing baby or toddler class offering. The flexibility is part of what makes this qualification so valuable.

“The mindfulness for children course has transformed how I support emotional wellbeing in my classroom. The scripts and session plans are brilliant — I use them every week.”

— Hannah L., Primary School Teacher, Kent

What makes our approach different?

Our course was developed by Julie, a registered paediatric nurse and health visitor with over 26 years' experience. It's grounded in child development, attachment theory, and trauma-aware practice — not just mindfulness theory.

We know that children's lives are complex. Some children have experienced trauma. Some have sensory sensitivities. Some find it hard to sit still or close their eyes. Our training prepares you for all of this — with practical, compassionate strategies that work in the real world.

The course is also accredited by the International Mindfulness and Meditation Alliance (IMMA), IICT, CTHA, CPD Standards Office, and ICAHP — giving you the credentials to practise with confidence and obtain professional insurance.

A note on the trauma-aware approach

One of the things we hear most from graduates is how much they value the trauma-aware lens running through the course. Mindfulness can be incredibly powerful for children who have experienced adversity — but only if it's delivered with care and sensitivity.

We teach you to always offer choice. If a child doesn't want to close their eyes, they can look at a spot on the wall. If they don't want to focus on their body, they can hold a fidget or simply listen. Mindfulness should feel safe — never pressured.

What happens after you qualify?

Once qualified, you can:

  • Deliver mindfulness sessions in primary schools and nurseries
  • Run your own children's wellbeing workshops
  • Add mindfulness to your existing baby massage, yoga, or therapy practice
  • Work with after-school clubs, holiday programmes, and community groups
  • Offer private sessions for families

You'll also join our community of 4,000+ graduates — a warm, supportive network of professionals who share resources, ideas, and encouragement.
