Course Overview

Our Anaphylaxis & Auto-Injector Training is a focused 2-hour course designed for school nurses, nursery staff, teaching assistants, and anyone working in a childcare setting where children may be at risk of severe allergic reactions.

The course covers how to recognise the signs of anaphylaxis, how to respond quickly and calmly, and how to correctly administer an adrenaline auto-injector (such as an EpiPen or Jext pen). Delivered by a registered paediatric nurse with extensive clinical experience.

This is an in-house course delivered at your setting across Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire, Kent, and London on request. Ideal for whole-team training or individual staff members who need up-to-date anaphylaxis awareness.

What the course covers

In 2 hours, you'll gain the knowledge and practical skills to recognise and respond to anaphylaxis quickly and confidently.

Understanding Anaphylaxis

  • What anaphylaxis is and how it differs from a mild allergic reaction
  • Common triggers — nuts, dairy, eggs, insect stings, medications
  • Recognising the early warning signs of a severe allergic reaction

Signs & Symptoms

  • Skin reactions — hives, swelling, flushing
  • Respiratory symptoms — wheezing, difficulty breathing, throat tightening
  • Circulatory symptoms — rapid heart rate, dizziness, collapse

Using an Auto-Injector

  • How adrenaline auto-injectors work (EpiPen, Jext, Emerade)
  • Step-by-step administration technique — hands-on practice
  • What to do after administering — positioning, calling 999, monitoring

Emergency Response & Care Plans

  • When and how to call 999
  • Positioning an anaphylactic casualty correctly
  • Understanding individual allergy action plans in your setting
