Whether you work with children or you're a parent or carer, there's always times when little ones find themselves in a pickle. In these stressful times, try one or all of these ideas. And, if all else fails, there's always ice cream!

  • Make sure intrusive loud noises are kept to a minimum and Introduce some soft music to the environment.
  • Have a cuddle. A cuddle helps release oxytocin, the ‘love drug’, which is produced as a result of skin-to-skin touch. Oxytocin initiates a series of events that lead to the release of endorphins, the body’s natural pain reliever and feel-good hormones.
  • Give them some one-on-one time. Babies and children often get fractious when they don’t feel as if they’re getting enough attention. Eye to eye contact always help.
  • Make sure you’re relaxed. Babies and young children pick up on emotions in others so if they sense you’re stressed, they may become stressed themselves.
  • Try a little massage. If you’re a baby massage teacher, you know what you’re doing! If not, take some time to learn a couple of simple strokes so that you can massage baby when they need it.

We hope you find these tips useful!
